Ski Survival Tips
Whist the Europeans love to ski the slopes of the great mountain ranges of the continent in the Alps and places like Switzerland, Italy, Austria and France, the North Americans will most likely opt for nearby areas. They will look to the region which borders their country and maybe go for one of the catered ski chalets in Canada. These are well fitted out properties which have the benefits of the traditional chalet but with all the catering provided. Large groups can be accommodated and they have everything needed, including first aid kits for those small mishaps which sometimes happen when on skis. What has changed is that plenty of Europeans are also going across the Atlantic to try new areas whilst Americans will not be averse to coming to Europe. So whist the Americans are taking up chalets in the European hot spots the Europeans are out there booking ski chalets in USA and in the likes of British Columbia to the north. Travel is a wonderful thing and in this era of cheaper air services, the world has most definitely got smaller. There is also a greater choice when it comes to facilities such that in the ski resorts there are more amenities which are geared up for family groups who may even be skiing with infants. The little ones who come on these holidays will soon be wanting to get out there and have a go themselves.
In both Europe and the Americas it is noticeable that the ski lessons provided on the nursery slopes (an apt name!) are available from a very early age. It is no wonder that some of the best downhill racers come from these continents as they start at such a tender age. So having family ski chalets is certainly an easy option to arrange, where ever it is. All of these trips are easy to find either by browsing the internet sites or using a local travel agent. There are plenty of internet online sites which give information on every aspect of a resort as well as having the facility to book family ski holidays in Canada or in a European destination. One of the great things about getting to the resorts in Canada is the fact that visitors have the opportunity to travel on the rail service to Whistler. This is one of the most dramatic rail routes in the world and worth going on, even if not a skier. The resorts of British Columbia have been well established for many years so there is a good selection of accommodation which will run from quality hotels to catered ski holidays in luxury chalets. Booking the holiday is something which is always an exciting time of the year and just going through all the resorts and what can be expected is great fun. For skiers there is the added element which is looking at the various runs and the level of difficulty. For the beginner, then they will need to tread carefully and choose a ski resort which has the slower and less demanding Blue runs, but for the advanced person the Black runs are what is needed to make it a memorable experience. Whilst it is fine to have the time to book well in advance there are those who cannot do that and will be taking a last minute ski deal in Canada or wherever suits best.
But that position is something which probably cannot be avoided and so the holiday which all the family look forward to has to be arranged somewhat late in the day. However that could be the case for any holiday and the trips which are restricted by school term times have to be booked to suit when getting the ski holidays with kids in tow. The good thing is that there is such a huge choice of resort, and the type of village location. Add to that all the other factors such as altitude, the local cuisine, the ski runs themselves and a host of other things, the chances are that there will be last minute ski deals in a range of places and countries. What is for certain is that once out on the slopes, wherever that may be, there is great joy in seeing families out there skiing with toddlers who may one day become great skiers. |
